Hi Everyone,
I’m about to graduate college and I’m thinking about applying to strategy and marketing consulting firms. Can anyone recommend me firms in the San Francisco Bay Area? I’m not as concerned with the size of the firm as the work environment and company culture.
Thanks in advance!

A lot of it depends on the type of marketing you specialize in. You might join a meetup group on meetup.com and see if there are any marketing groups in the area. Many of them will work with agencies and you can do some networking there.
Good luck.

Susan asks…
Do you think houses will be more expensive in 10 years than now?
Well, many factors will affect the home price, but in general, I think the price will continue to go up in selective areas. Despite the current downturn, Million dollar+ homes in areas like cupertino, palo alto, fremont mission area are still increasing, The rich don’t have to sell during a down market to drive price down. In east bay like oakland and hayward, prices are down because there are more subprime borrowers in those areas. This cause prices to drop but there are still a lot of people with good jobs & cash sitting on the sideline, waiting for price to stablize, once those buyers are willing to re-enter the market, prices will go up.
Also, bay area is one of the nicest area in the world, the weather is good, and they still have good paying jobs. Unless our gov’t policy drive away more jobs, I would think bay area is a good long term play.

Steven asks…
I graduated from college not too long ago with degrees in business and economics. I live in the midwest, and I really want to get out of here.
How difficult is the job market in the Bay area right now? Am I likely to have a difficult time finding something, since I don’t have a specialized degree (e.g. nursing, engineering, etc)?
Thanks!
There has been a slow down in the job market, but that’s happening across the country as well. Your best bet is to look at job ads via sfgate.com or Monster and start applying, you can arrange to do some interviews by phone or you could fly out for a week and do interviews. Definitely wouldn’t recommend moving without having a job lined up. Another great resource would be temp agencies, so at least you would have a temporary job while you looked for a more permanent one. Some temps jobs turn permanent!

Laura asks…
I will be moving to the Bay area in the next couple of months and was just curious about the job market?
It is very tight. Unemployment is probably 17% in the Bay Area.
Check out Craig’s list for some idea of what jobs are available and rate of pay.

Linda asks…
I am curious about the Job Market in the Bay Area? I am a Network Administrator and I am moving to Vallejo, Ca. I am curious to wether there are jobs in the Bay Area for this sort of line of work?
Yes, the Bay Area is a high-tech economy, so there is demand for your line of work. It shouldn’t be too difficult finding a job. The jobs are not in Vallejo, though.
You’ll probably have to commute into the city (take the ferry) or Silicon Valley (about a one hour drive). If you can get a job in San Francisco, that would be awesome. It has a very ‘Manhattan-on-the-Pacific’ vibe to it. If you’re ambitious, that’s the place to go. Wages are also higher.

my grampa watches a republican news channel….and i know some newspapers are biased, but i just want a news channel in the bay area that isnt biased.
You’re referring to the SF Bay Area? The closest you’ll come would be NPR or other publicly funded news. Fox is way out there, and the other networks are very mainstream and overall conservative. Even the SF Chron. Is very conservative, a Hearst paper with a couple of token liberal columnists.

Charles asks…
I have seen Twitters for CNN and MSNBC and similar news sources. But I was wondering if anyone knew of something like the Chronical or maybe KGO had a news based twitter? Thanks in advance!

On 11/7, I was moved by a little girl (about 3 yrs old) greeting her daddy, who was returning from Irak. She was soooo happy to see him that it made me cry with her. I’d like to see the news clip again. The next day, I went online to NBC 11 News Bay Area, but it only has the clips of today. How can I find the news clip I’m interested in?
It is probably not available, however you could contact NBC news 11 directly, and ask them, if it is they will give you a link, however It is doubtful that it is.

Betty asks…
A US Airways plane has crashed into the Hudson River near Manhattan. We at NBC News in the San Francisco Bay Area want to know if anyone had family or friends on the plane. We would like to talk with you. We are hearing everyone on board survived.
We don’t expect to hear from anyone for several hours.
But as a journalist…I will use every option available to me including Yahoo! Answers.
Please answer this question if you are directly connected to this story.
Thank you!
No, but you can quote me saying that I will NEVER fly anywhere again.
As a journalist, don’t you think family/friends are on the phone or at the airport now instead of calmly answering questions on Yahoo???

Jenny asks…
Well there are great internet marketing jobs but you must find one that suits YOU.
Become a critical thinker.

David asks…
I would like to work from my home base computer and was told my best bet would be internet marketing. I am currently a Licensed Real Estate agent is their anthing in marketing that would pertain to my current position?
Combine internet marketing with real estate.
Do you sell real estate now? Start a website that focuses on a small niche in real estate in your area. Make it informative and interesting to the average reader. Think about everything that a buyer or seller would, could, or should know about your area when they move in.
For instance: What are things that a buyer or seller needs in your area…
For Buyers it might be inspectors and what they should be looking for, interior decorators, pool services, lawn services, car dealers, auto repair stations, things of local interest like farmer’s markets, kids activities, etc.
For sellers it might be house painters, tips for increasing sales, movers, etc.
You can then link with these companies and individuals and let them advertise through your site. The list is unlimited.
You can also go to MySpace and start a profile.
All you have to do to find prospects is to begin searching for people who looking to move in your area soon. You can then add these people to your friends list. If you become the center of information (special cultural events, museums, festivals, etc) for your area, people will naturally gravitate to it. You can also link to a blog or website that has more information. I would avoid trying to sell real estate in MySpace, but you can provide information and education that is well within the Term of Service.
This is a significant advantage over other methods of finding prospects, as it allows you to do so completely free of charge. Furthermore, MySpace has built-in mechanisms that help you to contact these prospects and to warm them up for selling.
One of these mechanisms is a “bulletin.” A bulletin is a message that you send out to all of the friends on your friends list at the same exact time. Regardless of whether you have 10 friends or 40,000 a bulletin will reach them all in a matter of minutes. Next time they open up their profiles, they will all have that bulletin you sent.
How can you use this in your favor? You can send out a bulletin about something related to your business; and then use that to lure them into reading your MySpace.
You can also send out private messages to individual users. This is a good method to use in conjunction with a database. If you are taking the time to invite people individually, also take the time to add them to a database, along with some notes about them. If you think they might want something particularly, you could always send them a private message to let them know you are a seller. You can then offer them a discount if they are interested.
Good luck and e-mail if you have questions on what I wrote.

Betty asks…
Is there any company that offer internet marketing job that can be done fron home i.e. not visiting to office? what about affiliate internet marketing/advertising programs targeted at Nigeria, West Africa? Can anyone recommend a good Internet marketing book or course on getting traffic to my website? Source http://www.onlinejobsforall.com
There are a lot of internet marketing opportunities available with many offering marketing appeal throughout the world.
Is internet marketing RIGHT or Wrong?… I have been involved with MLM / Network Marketing / Internet Marketing for the past 28 years, and in my opinion, it epitomizes the opportunity of free enterprise in countries that encourage entrepreneurship.
What other business or opportunity affords you the chance to fulfill you dreams and goals with little or no major investment of money. People are making 10’s of thousands of dollars each month in their Network Marketing businesses, others are making a few hundred dollars a month and are grateful for the extra income.
The key to success in Network Marketing is choosing the right company. There are many scams out there, but following a guidline when reseaching your opportunity, you can assure yourself of a good chance to become successful.
When researching these types of companies you want to use the following guidelines:
1. Been in business at least 5 years
2. Financially stable
3. Has product or service with mass market appeal
4. Provides good support and training
5. Has a sensible marketing plan or pay structure
6. Isn’t making outlandish “get rich quick” statements
7. Provides advertising and promotional material
8. Doesn’t require you to stock inventory
9. Has no minimum sponsoring or selling requirements
10. Has no fees to become a member
Working a home business can be the answer to many peoples dreams, however, despite all the ads you may see, it does take a committment on your part of time and effort. If an ad sounds too good to be true, it probably isn’t. I am very leary of “get rich quick” type of ads.
I am retired and I work my home business fulltime now and I started out with a total investment of $2.95 and the company I chose meets all the guidlines as listed above. You can check out the links below.

Joseph asks…
I have really tight connections between my flights. I’m hoping that I don’t have to go through customs until I reach my destination. My first flight is domestic, but should I check in at the International desk? Do I just go through regular security when leaving the Domestic area and going to International in San Francisco?
You only go through Customs when you enter or leave a country (many countries do not have Customs screening for departing passengers, and a few do not have Passport Control for departing passengers).
If your airline has an “International Check-In Desk” in Seattle then use it as your itinerary includes international flights. Don’t spend time looking for the “International Desk” as most airlines in the USA no longer have separate check-in areas for international and domestic passengers.
Same with security – unlikely for there to be separate international and domestic check-in areas. However, your international itinerary MAY result in more scrutiny, so be at the airport two (2) full hours before your first flight.
You will check your bags to your destination (Mongola). Make sure the airline agent puts the right 3-letter codes for your trip on the bags for eaxample, San Francisco is SFO, Seoul (Inchon Airport) is ICN, and Ulan Bator (Chinggis Khaan Airport) is ULN.
You may or may not have to go through security when you change planes in SFO. The airline can tell you.
Assuming you are just changing planes in Seoul, you should not have to go through security or Passport Control & Customs there. Just follow the signs to the termainl/gate for your next flight. Ask an airline employees for directions/help if you are not certain what to do.
You may have to collect a boarding pass in Seoul from the airline you are flying to Mongolia. If so, just ask for directions from the airline staff that meet your SFO-ICN flight in Seoul.

At your destination, you normally exit the aircraft, go through Passport Control, collect your bags, and then go through Customs.

Thomas asks…
I have to get it there for Christmas.
I have a friend in Seoul. And I am from St. Louis. I send her presents all the time. Everytime it is different. Sometimes it takes 2 to 3 weeks. I guess it depends on the weight of the package. My packages are usually not more than 7 pounds. Send it tomorrow, and probably it might arrive on time.

Mary asks…
Singapore Airlines.
Two Adults.
June 6 to June 28. year 2011.
1500 for two adult, round trip.
when should i get it?
it is non-stop.
Yes, this is a good deal, although it appears to be going up, as lowest fares now for two passengers is $1652. I would suggest looking at the flexi fare options, so that booking now and then finding you need to tweak or cancel later could be well worth the extra $50-150.
Yes, it does appear to be non-stop or direct (any stops will no cause a change in aircraft).

Daniel asks…
About $1400 I would shop around through……tickes sometimes go for $700-900 or so here ya go, http://travel.travelocity.com/flights/AirSearch.do?SEQ=12104363708824102008

Robert asks…
We’ll be flying from Seoul to San Francisco, from there to Denver, and onwards to Winnipeg. I’m wondering if we actually have to go through US customs if we’re not actually entering the US beyond switching flights (basically I’m not sure if flying from San Francisco to Denver suddenly makes us domestic flights and requires we ‘enter’ the U.S.).
Yes, you will go through USA Immigration and Customs at San Francisco.
The US suspended the Transit program after 9/11 and now everyone who arrives at a US airport has to go through the whole process as though they were entering the USA. There are a couple of exceptions, but they don’t involve San Francisco or Denver.
Note that taking a domestic flight (SFO to DEN) would make entering the USA necessary even if the Transit program was still in effect. That type itinerary would have the same requirementin almost every country..

I see many properties losing value (a lot) and I am wondering how long will this continue to be the case. Do you think these properties wil ever go back to the values they had about 2 years ago? I am thinking to buy something of my own but I am afraid I will end up like some of my friends who bought a place 6 mo ago and their place just depreciated 100k 🙁
Thank you
Expect the prices to continue to decline for a least the next year or more until the mortgage market calms down.

I need some advice… I’m moving to the SF area in a few months from the midwest, but am not sure where a girl like me would be happy living; so I thought I’d ask someone who is from there.
I’m a little bit goth, a little punk, alt, Bettie Page-ish, and frequent cool coffehouses. I have a few tattoos & piercings; that you cant see during my corporate job during the day. I’m not all about the goth/punk scene. I like bike-riding & farmers markets & stuff during the day too. I like gardens, organic food, SAFE & QUIET neighborhoods.
I’m looking for a neighborhood that is across the bay that would suit me. Some people have suggested Rockridge, Lake Merritt area, or Berkeley. I’ve never been to any of these areas. I am regular middle working class & am able to support myself just fine, but not rich by any means. I’m just looking for an affordable studio apartment, something quiet, and in a relatively safe neighborhood. I like places with character (clawfoot tubs, hardwoods, etc).
Quaint areas include
Most of Berkeley.
In the north of Oakland: Rockridge, Temescal and Piedmont Avenue. Not far away, Lake Merritt area.
In Richmond: Point Richmond (which sits apart and is very different from the rest of the city.)
Albany & Keningston, small cities adjacent to Berkeley.
Most of the island city of Alameda.
It’s hard to imagine an area more into organic food than Berkeley/north Oakland. This includes farmer markets and many stores including the amazing Berkeley Bowl.
At the top of the list I would put Rockridge, Elmwood (a Berkeley neighborhood between Rockridge and the university) and Point Richmond.

Ruth asks…
especially in accounting and marketing
San Jose State, absolutely.

Hi all wondered if you could help: Our small company arranged marketing courses for people and we have not been receiving many enquiries from 2 of our locations, any ideas how we could go about increasing enquiries? Marketing ideas etc? thanks
Sounds like you need to get some data first. Trial & error is an expensive way to spend marketing dollars & effort, and sometimes it can do your brand more harm than good.
I kinda agree with an earlier poster – hire people who are good at marketing. And a good marketer already KNOWS what people will respond to and HOW to reach them best BEFORE pitching the value prop or judging the results.
Start off by interviewing your market – current customers are a good start. What were the reasons why they bought your product/service? How did they learn about it? What made them move when they did? Are there key
