Ruth asks…
I’m currently an undergrad at Cal State Hayward (East Bay) majoring in marketing. I was hoping to get accepted to intern in the marketing deparment for Intel because I have a lot of family that works there, but unfortunately they have no connections with that department.
Now I am looking to intern for well-known companies such as Apple or Google so that I may distiguish myself among applicants at UC Berkeley for my Masters in Business. However, that is seemingly difficult as well.
Will interning at a more prominent company increase my chances of getting accepted to UC Berkeley? Is it neccessary?
Would it be better to intern for a company or marketing firm that the deans or proffessors are more familiar with or recommend their alumni to?
Although my ambition and persistence is there, I’m not sure if it is my age (I’ll graduate at 20) or if it something else like my GPA (I have a cummilative of 3.4 so far, will soon be a 3.7) that is affecting my internship search. Please help!
HI there,
I am a second year UC MBA grad and would be joining Intel this fall. Any top MBA program give a lot of weightage to business experinece since Bschool is about sharing business stories and insights. Not sure if you are talking about MBA program specifically but a couple of years of expereince does help.
Regarding big firm vs small – Between good work in small firm vs bad work in big firm it is alwasy better to go with the former. During applicaton the admiss. Team focuses your actual work done in the firm … So big firms do help but if you get to learn and do important work in small firm choose that.
And yes if you can maintain a GPA over 3.6 that would be great./…. Maybe you can do more networking and ask your friends if they know people ….thats how i got my intern and job

We have been actively looking to buy in the Pleasanton/Dublin area but have been advised that the market may go down significantly in the next 12 months so renting might make sense for the short term. Anyone familiar with this area have a comment or advice?
Rent. The market is getting ready to crash.

Michael asks…
I have a 2007 Trek 7.6FX that I bought on an impulse, in attempts to replace a previous bike that had just got stolen. I have had the Trek since mid-May 2007 ridden it 3-5 times and
cannot seem to sell it. This bike is in brand new condition! My reason for selling is that I need a more rugged commuter and I have decided on the Bad Boy Ultra.
I am asking because i’ve never put any bike on the market for sale… I’ve tried Craigslist and some local ads but it’s a very slow process…Does anyone have advice on Marketing an excellent deal on a Bike? FYI : The bike is in the SF / East Bay Area.
Have you considered trading your bike into the dealer that is selling the bad boy ultra, he might give you a good deal on the bike, and he has the outlet to move it to other buyers that are not available to you to do.
You could always clean the bike up and polish the chrome a little, maybe your asking to high a price for the bike. Yopu should try to remember that what you paid for the bike new is not what your going to get back when you sell it. Maybe your asking price is too high and its not worth it for someone to pay your price when they don’t know if anything is wrong with the bike, it would be easier for the buyer to buy a brand new bike from a quality dealer, that way they know it is brand new and not used, for the same price.
Try lowering your price by 10 to 15% and also explain in the ads that you are running to sell the bike, the reason why you are selling it. Sometimes this helps to sell an item such as this to a buyer.
Hope this helps you to get the bike that you want to buy.

I am pretty sure there is no numismatic value and their value is in the silver content. I am guessing they are in pretty average condition from 1880’s to 1900. No Carson City mint coins. I’d like to know what the spread is between buying and selling in this market.
I would like to find a reputable dealer within driving distance of the east bay but, may do a couple hundred miles for a good price.
If you mail it to me i’ll send you $100. But thats a collectors item!
