Jenny asks…
Hi Everyone,
I’m about to graduate college and I’m thinking about applying to strategy and marketing consulting firms. Can anyone recommend me firms in the San Francisco Bay Area? I’m not as concerned with the size of the firm as the work environment and company culture.
Thanks in advance!

A lot of it depends on the type of marketing you specialize in. You might join a meetup group on meetup.com and see if there are any marketing groups in the area. Many of them will work with agencies and you can do some networking there.
Good luck.

Susan asks…
Do you think houses will be more expensive in 10 years than now?
Well, many factors will affect the home price, but in general, I think the price will continue to go up in selective areas. Despite the current downturn, Million dollar+ homes in areas like cupertino, palo alto, fremont mission area are still increasing, The rich don’t have to sell during a down market to drive price down. In east bay like oakland and hayward, prices are down because there are more subprime borrowers in those areas. This cause prices to drop but there are still a lot of people with good jobs & cash sitting on the sideline, waiting for price to stablize, once those buyers are willing to re-enter the market, prices will go up.
Also, bay area is one of the nicest area in the world, the weather is good, and they still have good paying jobs. Unless our gov’t policy drive away more jobs, I would think bay area is a good long term play.

Steven asks…
I graduated from college not too long ago with degrees in business and economics. I live in the midwest, and I really want to get out of here.
How difficult is the job market in the Bay area right now? Am I likely to have a difficult time finding something, since I don’t have a specialized degree (e.g. nursing, engineering, etc)?
Thanks!
There has been a slow down in the job market, but that’s happening across the country as well. Your best bet is to look at job ads via sfgate.com or Monster and start applying, you can arrange to do some interviews by phone or you could fly out for a week and do interviews. Definitely wouldn’t recommend moving without having a job lined up. Another great resource would be temp agencies, so at least you would have a temporary job while you looked for a more permanent one. Some temps jobs turn permanent!

Laura asks…
I will be moving to the Bay area in the next couple of months and was just curious about the job market?
It is very tight. Unemployment is probably 17% in the Bay Area.
Check out Craig’s list for some idea of what jobs are available and rate of pay.

Linda asks…
I am curious about the Job Market in the Bay Area? I am a Network Administrator and I am moving to Vallejo, Ca. I am curious to wether there are jobs in the Bay Area for this sort of line of work?
Yes, the Bay Area is a high-tech economy, so there is demand for your line of work. It shouldn’t be too difficult finding a job. The jobs are not in Vallejo, though.
You’ll probably have to commute into the city (take the ferry) or Silicon Valley (about a one hour drive). If you can get a job in San Francisco, that would be awesome. It has a very ‘Manhattan-on-the-Pacific’ vibe to it. If you’re ambitious, that’s the place to go. Wages are also higher.
